| Description: | The integrated undamaget cells of b -hemolytic streptococcus (strain H46A) are shown to possess streptokinase activity. The membrane fraction and cytosol were isolated from microbial cells, but the membrane fraction only possesses streptokinase activity. This activity does not decrease during successive repeated washings by destillated water or diluted solutions of salts. The ability of hemolytic streptococcus membranes to activate only a human plasminogen was demonstrated. This ability is suppressed by anti-streptokinase serum. |
